The county clerk serves as the chief election authority for all Tucker County and employs 55 election officials to work at the polls on Election Day.

  • In West Virginia, certain registered voters may receive and vote an absentee ballot by mail. This page provides information regarding absentee voting eligibility, process and required forms.

    Eligibility and Absentee Voting Information:

    Voters may submit an absentee ballot application beginning January 1 for the upcoming May Primary Election, and beginning on the 84th day before the General Election.

    The absentee ballot application must be received in your county clerk’s office by the 6th day before each election. Applications may be submitted to your county clerk via fax, U.S. mail, email, or in-person by hand delivery.

    Voters Covered under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA)

    Voters covered under UOCAVA may register to vote, request and return an absentee ballot for certain elections held within West Virginia. UOCAVA voters may submit their absentee application beginning January 1 of the election year.

    If you are eligible as a UOCAVA voter, you may both register to vote and apply for an absentee ballot by filling out and submitting the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA). If you are registering to vote for the first time, your FPCA must be submitted via U.S. mail no later than 21-days before election day. If you are already registered to vote, you may submit your FPCA to your county clerk via email, fax, or U.S. mail.

    You may return your absentee ballot in the same manner it was transmitted based on your choice marked on the FPCA, or via U.S. Mail. Your absentee ballot must be received by your county clerk by the start of Canvass, which begins in most counties five (5) days after Election Day.

  • Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA)

    The Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act is commonly referred to as UOCAVA. UOCAVA citizens are U.S. citizens who are active members of the Uniformed Services, the Merchant Marine, and the commissioned corps of the Public Health Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, their eligible family members and U.S. citizens residing outside the United States.

    The Act allows certain West Virginia residents who are U.S. citizens to register to vote and submit an absentee ballot for elections held within the state. UOCAVA voters may submit their absentee application beginning January 1 of th​e election year.

    Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP.gov) offers voting assistance for Service members and their families and overseas citizens. For an overview of the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act please visit https://www.fvap.gov/info/laws/uocava.

    Electronic voting for UOCAVA citizens:

    In West Virginia, UOCAVA voters are permitted to use an online ballot system. Voters who choose this option will receive login credentials from their county clerk to access their ballot through the secure Omni Ballot portal using a computer or smart device. Once the voter’s selections are made, they have the opportunity to review their ballot to ensure it was marked correctly. Similar to traditional absentee voting in West Virginia, all voters must sign their name before returning their ballot. The signature and ballot may then be submitted by mail, email, fax or through the portal. Ballots are verified and tabulated by the local elections office.     1. Download the Federal Post Card Application and select “email or online” for how you would like to receive your voting materials.

    2. Email, fax, or mail the completed form to your county clerk.

Not earlier than second Monday in January and not later than last Saturday in January preceding primary election, candidates for nomination or election in the Primary Election file certificates of announcement of candidacy and filing fee with: The Secretary of State for statewide races, offices to be filled by voters of more than one county, and judicial offices, excluding magistrate; The County Clerk if office is to be filled by voters of a single county, including magistrate; or The Town Recorder or City Clerk if for an office is to be filled by voters of a municipality. Hours for in-person filing on the final day, January 27, 2024: Secretary of State: 9:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. County Clerk’s office: 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Mailed Certificate of Announcement Deadline: Must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service before midnight E.S.T. on January 27, 2024. Candidates unable to pay filing fee must provide an oath stating he or she is unable to pay fee due to a lack of financial resources and receive in-lieu-of-filing-fee petition forms and instructions on gathering signatures. Candidates shall file petitions with required number of signatures by close of filing on
